To encourage unity and erase the social stigma of “dreadlocks” through education, celebration and support.
Locs Revolution was founded in the spring of 2013 by Niyya Tenee, a New York self trained Loc styler, blogger and natural hair enthusiast. While delighting in the energy of the natural hair movement, Tenee felt there was something missing… locs. In the world of natural hair events, blogs and especially hair products, locs were being left out of the conversation. Even when included, locs often seemed to be an after thought, plagued with misconceptions.
Tenee saw potential in the natural hair movement but first locs needed to be adequately represented. Through the power of social media she began to network with stylist, bloggers/vloggers, event coordinators, vendors, and naturalistas who supported her vision. Believing that by giving a voice to the locs community we can revolutionize the way we see hair, the natural movement and ultimately ourselves. Thus the revolution was born.
